Email problems resolved from the top of a volcano!!

Well it's not true really but I did give it a passing thought. I am recently returned from a 10 day holiday in Vanuatu, and it was bliss. I wanted to see an active volcano and wild horses and was lucky to see both. The brochure said 'free wifi when the generator is running' but like all things in Vanuatu it does not always turn out that way. What little Internet there was tended to be dialup. Remember that??

Now I am getting back into work mode, slowly. While I was away, Steve was left trying to resolve some registration (new account) and general email issues we have been having. As we (FolioSpaces) continues to grow we run into a hassle from time to time, and email notifications have been a pain. We now have a dedicated email server, which failed yesterday (the host did not provide a reason) so there were no emails going out at all. A more long term problem has been we were blacklisted (?) by Gmail, so no users with Gmail accounts were able to register. This is an interesting dilemma. Google Australia does have a phone number, but once you get through the option 1, option 2, you finally get a recorded message that says 'technical support is not available'. I tried the help forum, sent an email, and eventually sent a Fax. Now, I don't know what worked in the end but I have just successfully managed to register on FolioSpace with one of my Gmail accounts. The email was in my Spam folder, but what the heck, it was there. Hooray!!!!! I have a sneaking feeling the fax may have helped. Don't ever underestimate the value of old technology!

Hopefully our email hassles are now sorted for a while, and I can spend some time building an ePortfolio... I might do one on Volcanos....
